Moderate Growth in Passenger Car Sales, While Commercial Vehicles Continue to Struggle

Production
The industry produced a total 1,998,877 vehicles including passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, three wheelers and two wheelers in July 2014 as against 1,728,974 in July 2013, registering a growth of 15.61 percent over the same month last year.
Domestic Sales
The sales of Passenger Vehicles grew by 2.53 percent in April-July 2014 over the same period last year. Within the Passenger Vehicles segment, Passenger Cars and Utility Vehicles grew by 2.89 percent and 7.36 percent respectively, while Vans declined by (-) 12.19 percent in April-July 2014 over the same period last year.
The overall Commercial Vehicles segment registered a de-growth of (-) 15.51 percent in April-July 2014 as compared to same period last year. Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) registered negative growth at (-) 8.50 percent and Light Commercial Vehicles also dropped by (-) 19.02 percent.
Three Wheelers sales grew by 15.00 percent in April-July 2014 over the same period last year. Passenger Carriers and Goods Carriers grew by 16.24 percent and 9.53 percent respectively in April-July 2014 over April-July 2013.
Two Wheelers sales registered growth of 13.70 percent in April-July 2014 over April-July 2013. Within the Two Wheelers segment, Scooters, Motorcycles and Mopeds grew by 30.80 percent, 8.94 percent and 4.26 percent respectively in April-July 2014 over April-July 2013.
Exports
In April-July 2014, overall automobile exports grew by 23.17 percent over the same period last year. Export of all segments grew. Passenger Vehicles, Commercial Vehicles, Three Wheelers and Two Wheelers grew by 3.84 percent, 19.78 percent, 5.27 percent and 32.72 percent respectively during April-July 2014 over the same period last year.
